DEBBIE GIBSON AND SHANICE TO APPEAR AT 2023 CAPITAL PRIDE CONCERT

Washington, D.C., April 27, 2023 — The Capital Pride Alliance proudly announces two classic acts who will be appearing during the 2023 Capital Pride Concert presented by HOT 99.5 / PRIDE Radio and DARCARS: Debbie Gibson and Shanice. Debbie Gibson burst onto the music scene at 16 and instantly became the youngest artist in history to write, produce, and perform a number one hit, Foolish Beat.

Shanice became the grand champion of Star Search at the ripe age of eleven. Her first album was released when Shanice was fourteen, but it was her worldwide smash, I Love Your Smile, a pop hit in 22 countries, that brought her a Grammy nomination, Germany’s Golden Lion Award, and international stardom!

“We are thrilled to bring these strong LGBTQ+ allies and music legends to our Capital Pride Concert Stage this year as we reflect on our heritage and prepare for our 50th Anniversary celebration concert for WorldPride in 2025! There is much more to come,” stated Jerry Houston, PRIDE Radio Program Director and Capital Pride Entertainment Chair.

The Capital Pride Concert will make its annual return on Sunday, June 11, from 12:00 noon to 10:00 pm on America’s Mainstreet, Pennsylvania Avenue at 3rd Street, NW, in conjunction with the Capital Pride Festival presented by MGM National Harbor from 12:00 noon to 10:00 pm. The Capital Pride Concert and Festival continue to be free to the public, with tickets available for special access to the Concert Pit and the VIP Concert Experience.

The Festival and Concert cap off the celebration weekend, with a full day of entertainment on three stages, consisting of international performers and our best local and regional LGBTQ+ talent. Following the Pride Concert, attendees are invited to dance into the sunset at the Capitol Sunset Dance Party with GRAMMY️ Award-Winning Music Producer, Remixer, Composer, and DJ Tracy Young.

The full lineup of all three stages — including the headliners, which will be announced shortly  — will be available at www.capitalpride.org/concert.

2021 was a busy year for Gibson. Her guest starring role in the musical episode of “Lucifer” debuted on Netflix. She completed her “Debbie Gibson & Joey McIntyre: Live from Las Vegas” mini-residency at The Venetian® Resort Las Vegas. Gibson released a new duet of “Lost in Your Eyes,” featuring Joey McIntyre. Gibson and DJ Tracy Young co-penned “One Step Closer,” with an exclusive remix debuting on the Debbie Gibson Peloton Ride. Her first pop album of original material in 20 years, The Body Remembers, came out on her own label Stargirl Records to rave reviews. The new album promptly shot up to No. 2 on the Apple Pop Sales Charts and achieved one million streams in its first month.

In 2022, Stargirl Records released “One Step Closer Remixes” reaching No. 3 on the Swiss dance charts and landed at No. 8 on the Commercial Pop MusicWeek chart in the UK. Gibson’s first full length holiday album Winterlicious was released, and her holiday tour of the same name kicked off with sold out shows and acclaim that ended with a magical performance on “Good Morning America.”

Gibson shows no signs of slowing down. Most recently, she competed on Criss Angel’s Magic With The Stars, opposite Donny Osmond. This spring, she will release a new single and music video, “Love Don’t Care,” off The Body Remembers. “The Body Remembers Encore” U.S. tour kicks off May 25 in Niagara Falls.

Shanice

With her phenomenal voice and delightful personality, Shanice has won the admiration of many of the music industry’s most respected names. On her closing night, opening for pop group N’ Sync at Atlanta’s Lakeview Amphitheatre, Justin Timberlake joined her in a duet performance of her memorable ballad “Yesterday”!

In addition, she has collaborated with the likes of Kenny Loggins on his Live in the Redwoods Album, Kenny Babyface Edmonds on his MTV unplugged project as well as performing the duet, “If I Never Knew You” in English and Spanish with Latin pop star John Secada, on the multi-platinum Pochahontas soundtrack. Additional collaborations include heart melting renditions of “The Prayer” in both English and Italian, with Josh Groban. Adding to her list of accomplishments is her thirty-year record-breaking chart jump in Billboard with her first single, “When I Close My eyes”, from her self-entitled album on LaFace records! Not only has Shanice made history on the recording end, she also became the first African American to star as Eponine in the hit Broadway production of “Les Miserables,” where she was widely received in her incomparable portrayal!

“Every Woman Dreams,” was her first album released independently after having her two children. And thanks to technological advances, Shanice remained widely visible, receiving close to six million hits from her Youtube followers, prompting an article in Huffington post addressing her as a marketing genius!

Shanice and her husband, actor Flex Alexander, starred in a hit reality show “Flex and Shanice” which ran for three seasons on the Oprah Winfrey Network. Shanice recently launched her own lipstick line, “Smile by Shanice,” which is vegan and non-toxic. She has recently signed a production deal and is collaboratively working to develop a new reality show.
