The annual Pride Parade steps off Saturday, June 8, at 4:30 pm, from 21st & P Streets, NW, Washington, DC. It travels 1.5 miles through Dupont Circle and 17th Street, passes by the Logan Circle neighborhood and ends around the 14th Street corridor at R Street.

Participants are encouraged to be creative and utilize the Capital Pride 2019: shhhOUT: Past, Present & Proud theme to deck out their contingent.  The judges review stand will be located on New Hampshire Avenue, between 18th and Q Streets along with ticketed bleacher seating ($25 per person or complimentary for person’s requiring ADA accommodations).

Staging & Line-up

Staging zone and time will be provided via email after June 1. Each confirmed and paid registration will be assigned a staging color zone and time. The line-up is first-come, first-serve within each staging zone and time. Only vehicles, floats, and one person if you are just walking, are required to arrive within your designated arrival time to claim your spot. Walkers will given a later line-up time, between 4pm and 6pm.  It takes approximately 2-hours for all contingents to depart the staging area.  Due to extreme heat, we encourage walkers to stay away from the staging area until close to their estimated departure time.

Parade Packet

Staging Times for Marchers/Walkers

Each contingent is given a staging color zone and time for arrival. If you have multiple walkers/marchers, they do not all need to arrive at this time. The times below are estimated arrival times for your additional marchers/walkers, so they don’t have to wait as long in the staging area before stepping off.

Red: walkers arrive between 3:00 – 4:00pm
Blue: walkers arrive between 3:15 – 4:15pm
Yellow: walkers arrive between 3:15 – 4:15pm
Green: walkers arrive between 3:30 – 4:30pm
Orange: walkers arrive between 3:30 – 4:30pm
Purple: walkers arrive between 4:30 – 5:30pm
O Street: walkers arrive between 4:30 – 5:30pm
Newport Place: walkers arrive between 4:30 – 5:30pm
N Street: walkers arrive between 4:30 – 5:30pm
Teal: Times will vary based on float arrival time. Best to arrive between 3:15 – 4:15pm

Guidelines Summary

  • Floats must have safety rails installed.
  • Floats can be no taller than 13′ from the ground to avoid trees along the route.  Floats should be no longer than 42′ in length.
  • Drive safely and observe all parade officials and police.
  • Maintain parade speed and stay within 20′ of the contingent in front of you.
  • No stopping for performances.
  • Sirens are NOT permitted.
  • Gently toss giveaways.

  • Throwables are items that parade floats toss to spectators. Historically, throwables have includes plastic beads, disposable water bottles, promotional pamphlets, etc.

    Capital Pride discourages plastic beads and disposable water bottles as throwables. These plastic products have been shown to cause serious harm to marine ecosystems and have clogged DC street drains. While planning your organization’s parade contingent, be mindful of the environmental impacts of the materials you are using and distributing.
