Capital Pride Alliance Supports March For Our Lives

WASHINGTON D.C., June 9, 2022 The Capital Pride Alliance (CPA) welcomes and supports the upcoming March For Our Lives that will be held on Saturday, June 11, in Washington, DC from 12 Noon – 2pm at the Washington Monument. There will also be marches happening in cities nationwide. The march in DC will occur hours before the much anticipated return of the Capital Pride Parade after a two-year hiatus related to the pandemic.

A million people marched in 2018 with March For Our Lives, and as a result historic changes to gun laws occurred in state legislatures across the country, with over 150 state gun safety laws being passed in the wake of the 2018 March.

“With the continued mass shootings that have been happening around the country, this march is pivotal in creating the change that is needed around hate crimes and to enact sensible gun laws in this nation. Change won’t happen without action. We give our full support to the March at the same time as we are returning to the streets to celebrate the changes that are still needed regarding LGBTQ+ issues in this country.” said Ryan Bos, Executive Director of CPA.

“When we march, we make change. The failure of commonsense federal solutions to the gun violence epidemic rests squarely with Washington, where our leaders have refused to do their jobs and keep us alive. Young people and allies who support gun safety have done everything we’ve been asked to do to create change. If it takes mobilizing hundreds of thousands of Americans for Congress to budge on simple laws to stop mass death, we’re left with no other choice but to march.” said Daud Mumin, Co-Chair of the March For Our Lives Board.
