Capital Pride Alliance Response to Chechnya

Capital Pride Alliance Response to Chechnya

We are outraged and shocked by news reports that the government in Chechnya has targeted members of the LGBT community after GayRussia.ru applied for a permit to celebrate Pride. The New York Times reports that the government in Chechnya has detained over 100 gay men, at least three of whom have been murdered.
We stand in solidarity with these courageous leaders and others around the world as they fight for equal rights and in some cases their very lives. We urge our government, in the strongest terms possible, to intercede and protect those who want to live in peace. We will not stop fighting for our own rights here or the rights of others across the world.

Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and friends.
