Capital Pride Alliance Now Accepting Nominations for the Capital Pride Honors

WASHINGTON, DC, April 27, 2021 – The Capital Pride Alliance (CPA) is now accepting nominations for The Capital Pride Honors, an event to acknowledge outstanding individuals, leaders, and activists who have furthered the causes important to the LGBTQ+ community during these unprecedented times in the National Capital Region. Community members are encouraged to nominate individuals who or organizations that have made considerable contributions in support of the LGBTQ+ community. This year, CPA is accepting nominations for the following awards through Friday, May 14, 2021. Nominations can be made at www.CapitalPride.org/nominate.

#StillWe ADVOCATE

This award recognizes and celebrates those who have been advocates and activists in the racial and social justice movement including but not limited to Black Lives Matter advocacy and equality work for the greater LGBTQ+ community.

#StillWe INSPIRE

This award recognizes anyone who has motivated and inspired community members to support those in need during the pandemic and to help community organizations face the challenges that COVID-19 has brought on.

#StillWe THRIVE

The Bill Miles Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service

This award recognizes an individual for outstanding volunteer service with the Capital Pride Alliance, their programs, initiatives, or other sponsored activities.

The Larry Stansbury Award for Exemplary Contributions

This award recognizes an individual who or organization that has provided exemplary contributions and support related to programs and initiatives of the Capital Pride Alliance.

Honorees will be recognized on Friday, June 11, 2021 at The Capital Pride Honors. This year’s event will include a limited capacity in-person ceremony that complies with all pandemic restrictions, in addition to being streamed live. Additional information about the event will be provided in the coming weeks.

Funds raised through ticket sales and donations from The Capital Pride Honors will further collaborative advocacy, outreach, education, and programming in support of our intersectional community, expand access to programs to ensure inclusivity, secure resources to meet accessibility needs, and provide tools to help assist in volunteer recruitment, training, and recognition of organization and community leaders. Most importantly, these funds will help offset the financial losses incurred during this past year due to cancelled in-person events, strengthen resources needed for upcoming June, potential October, and ongoing programing, and help the Capital Pride Alliance bring our community back together for an unforgettable, full-scale Pride in 2022, as we set our eyes on 2025 when we will celebrate 50 years of Pride in the Nation’s Capital.
