Getting Around DC

Getting Around DC.

Getting around DC is quite easy, if you don’t insist on driving. Traffic can be horrible, and most areas are easily accessible by Metro buses and the Metro Subway system. Walking is also a very efficient (and healthy) way to travel. Below are some key resources for traveling to and within Washington, DC

Metro Subway and Bus System is the easiest way to get around. The system also provides service and/or connections to most borderinging areas of Maryland and Virginia. www.wmata.com

Air Travel is fairly easy with three major airports serving Washington, DC: Washington National Airport (DCA), Washington-Dulles International Airport (IAD), and the Baltimore-Washington Airport (BWI). All three airports are served by Metro service.

Regional train service via MARC and VRE is available to and from Baltimore and Maryland and Virginia suburban areas. Service is limited to Monday – Friday, with special or no service on holidays. www.mta.com and www.vre.org

Amtrak provides service at Washington Union Station. www.amtrak.com

For those that want to move a little quicker, but still stay green, check out the community bike-sharing / rental service, Capital BikeShare. www.capitalbikeshare.com

If you reallly feel the need to drive in the city (or on the beltway), consider using the community car share service ZipCar. www.zipcar.com
