Summary:
Capital Pride is a community event that remains focused on diversity, cultural achievement, civil rights issues and entertainment by and for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals, families and friends. Capital Pride celebrates the unique heritage and history of the GLBT community in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.

- Capital Pride is the fourth largest gay pride event in the U.S.
- Capital Pride attracts thousands each year from all parts of the country, and throughout the world
Event:
Capital Pride features a weeklong series of events ranging in scope from the ever popular street festival and parade to the enlightening town hall meeting, and educational workshops. Other annual events have included the Mr. and Miss Capital Pride pageant, the interfaith service, workshops, receptions and special parties.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Gay and Lesbian Community
Both nationally and locally, the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities have proven to be a very unique and appealing group of consumers.
Nationally
- 6.8 percent of Americans over the age of 18 – roughly 15 million people – self identify as gay, lesbian or bisexual.
- There are more than three million same-sex couple U.S. households.

- One in four gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender adult state they have switched products or service providers because they found a competing company that supported the GLBT community and its causes
- 46 percent prefer products from companies that support non-profits that serve the gay and lesbian community over competing products that do not.

The following data was the result of a readers survey of the "Washington Blade," a leading weekly newspaper targeting the local GLBT community. The comparison figures (in parentheses) reflect all adults in the Washington metropolitan area.

- Median is 41 (vs. 42)
- 85 percent between 25 and 54. (vs. 62 percent)
Employment
- 92 percent are employed. (vs. 70 percent)
- 70 percent are professionals, managers, technicians or proprietors. (vs. 32 percent)
Income
- Individual median income is $57,200 / year (vs. $33,500)
- Household median income is $84,000 (vs. $63,000)
Education
- 79 percent are college graduates (vs. 37 percent)
- 42 percent hold postgraduate degrees
