Capital Pride Alliance Opens Award Nominations

Award Recipients will be Honored by Capital Pride Alliance at the

2016 Celebration of Pride in June.

Washington, DC – Capital Pride Alliance has opened nominations for the annual honors awarded to individuals and organizations at the Pride Celebration in June. Family, friends, colleagues, and allies are encouraged to nominate those who have made exceptional contributions to the LGBTA communities and have had a positive impact on the lives of others. Full criteria and nomination forms for each of the awards listed below can be found on the Capital Pride Website. The deadline for nominations is February 29, 2016.

Capital Pride Heroes Awards recognizes individuals who have furthered the causes important to DC’s LGBTA community. These heroes have brought about positive changes to our lives and our community.

Engendered Spirits recognizes those individuals who are outstanding advocates, activists, and supporters of the transgender community.  They will also be honored at the 2016 Capital Trans Pride on May 21st.

Larry Stansbury Award honors exemplary contributions to Pride in the national capital region.

Bill Miles Award recognizes outstanding volunteer service with Capital Pride.

“Each year, Capital Pride Alliance is honored to highlight the distinguished contributions of members of the LGBTA community,” said Bernie Delia, President of the Board of Directors of the Capital Pride Alliance. “Over the years we have recognized dozens of individuals and organizations.  Their impact has been tremendous, and each of them has made extraordinarily positive contributions to the community. We look forward to recognizing a new group of honorees this year.”

“We always look forward to receiving the nominations for these awards,” said Ryan Bos, Executive Director of the Capital Pride Alliance. “They reflect the wide diversity of the DC LGBTA community and the involvement, impact, and support made by the nominees. We encourage everyone to recommend a person or organization they believe deserves recognition.”

Honorees will be announced in May. Heroes and Engendered Spirits as well as other recipients will be recognized during the 2016 Celebration of Pride In The Nation’s Capital at the annual Heroes Gala on Wednesday, June 1, 20016, and at the Pride Parade on Saturday, June 11, 2016.
