Summary:

Capital Pride is a community event that remains focused on diversity, cultural achievement, civil rights issues and entertainment by and for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals, families and friends. Capital Pride celebrates the unique heritage and history of the GLBT community in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Capital Pride features a weeklong series of events culminating in the ever popular parade and street festival.

This year marks the 27th anniversary of the parade through Dupont Circle, 17th and parts of 14th Streets! More than 100 separate organizations, including the DC Police Department, Whole Foods, Results the Gym, DC Eagle, Go Mama Go!, All Souls Unitarian Church and Brother Help Thyself participated last year.

Both nationally and locally, the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities have proven to be a very unique and appealing group of consumers. The total U.S. buying power of the GLBT market is projected to be worth $744 billion in 2009 and 46 percent prefer products from companies that support and serve the gay and lesbian community over competing products that do not.
