2008 Capital Pride Festival

The festival will take place from 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM Sunday, June 15, on Pennsylvania Ave between 3rd and 7th Streets, NW. Approximately 200,000 people are expected to attend the festival, which will feature two entertainment stages, over 300 organizations, vendors, corporations, and community partners, and 7 hours of non-stop music, entertainment, fun, and pride.

New for 2008, Capital Pride is "going green" at the festival. In cooperation with Burgundy Crescent Volunteers, an LGBT volunteer organization, Capital Pride has started several green initiatives including providing recycle bins at the festival. "This is just the start of the green initiative. It is our responsibility not only as members of the LGBT community but as concerned citizens to make sure that we are as eco-conscious at our celebrations," said Rees Kirkorian, the Capital pride Festival Committee co-chair. "We are so excited to be able to have the energy and expertise that Burgundy Crescent's green coalition is able to offer in this area."

BETTY

Elizabeth, Alyson, and AmyBETTY is a five-piece pop rock band fronted by Elizabeth Ziff, Alyson Palmer and Amy Ziff (L to R above). The band’s unique sound is a blend of tight harmonies layered over rocking guitars and a solid rhythm section. Since 1986, BETTY has performed their memorable live show – full of exciting, hook-laden songs, clever word play and manic energy - in clubs, theatres and arenas all over the world. BETTY’s national tour of their hit Off-Broadway show, BETTY RULES (directed by Michael “Rent” Greif), their controversial new theme song for Showtime Television’s most popular show, THE L WORD, and their acting appearances on that program have catapulted this deeply beloved cult band to wilder international recognition.

Bonded since an unfortunate incarceration, BETTY began as an edgy a’cappella/spoken word/techno-beat trio in Washington DC. Fierce Elizabeth (vocals, guitar), funky Alyson (vocals, bass) and funny Amy (vocals, cello) are the songwriters, while virtuoso guitarist Tony Salvatore and sizzling drummer Mino Gori complete the band, now based in downtown NYC. Activist entertainers, the band is known for fighting fiercely for what they believe: equal rights, feminism, finding cures for breast cancer and AIDS, Planned Parenthood, the Pro-Choice movement, an end to sexual violence and everybody’s inalienable right to safely dance naked in the streets. Over the years, their benefit performances have helped raised over $25,000,000.

Jason & deMarco

Jason & DeMarcoPop duo and real life couple Jason & deMarco headline an afternoon of diverse entertainment.

With the international release of their latest album, "Till the End of Time", Jason & deMarco became familiar names to music fans around the world. Their first single "Trying to Get to You" climbed the Billboard Charts and their second single, "This is Love" won "Music Video of the Year 2006" on MTV's LOGO. A remix of "This is Love" produced by DJ Scotty K was also added to Abercrombie & Fitch's playlist in April of 2007 and can be heard nationally in stores. Currently, a full-length feature documentary film entitled "We're All Angels" is circulating the independent film circuit where it premiered at NewFest 2007: The 19th Annual New York LGBT Film Festival as well as OUTFEST 2007: The 25th Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.
