Committees


Committees.

Capital Pride programming and events are produced by volunteers who work on various committees.  These committees plan and produce the events enjoyed by over 250,000 attendees each year.  In addition 300+ onsite volunteers are recruited to support the implementation of the many events that comprise the annual Capital Pride celebration.

Accessibility Committee supports and addresses the needs of persons with disabilities.

Co-Chairs: Jay F. Penuel

Festival Committee produces the landmark street festival on Pennsylvania Avenue each year which has attendance of over 200,000 people.

Entertainment Committee  produces the entertainment viewed on the three stages found at the street festival, the review stages at the parade and assists in providing entertainment at other special events.

Fundraising Committee identifies and facilitates activities throughout the year that help raise money, manages the bucket brigade and other fundraising activities at the annual Street Festival, and manages the Silent Auction at the annual Hero’s Gala.

Green Committee focuses on the sustainability of Capital Pride operations and programming.  It works to make our events, vendors, partners, and participants as eco-friendly as possible.

Information & Technology Committee manages web content and development, supports administrative solutions, etc.

Marketing & Communications Committee gets the word out about Capital Pride events and involvement opportunities.  They use a diverse portfolio of communications to market Capital Pride programs to the community and supporters.

Parade Committee produces the annual parade that brings out thousands of people to line the streets of northwest Washington DC. It has been ranked as the “Best Parade of Washington” 4 years in a row by City Paper.

Pride Partners Committee work with other non-profit organizations to bring them on as “co-sponsors” of Capital Pride.  Capital Pride is a celebration for the community, produced by the community; this committee works to align other non-profit organization programs with Capital Pride.

Safety & Security manages and organizes all safety and security protocols for the annual Pride Parade and Festival.

Co-Chairs: Topher Holmes & Chris Patton 

Special Events produce the many, diverse social and formal events during the annual celebration.  This include events such as dances and parties, Heroes & Engendered Spirits Gala, Silent Auction, Town Hall and Opening Party.

Taste of Pride produces the monthly and 10 day restaurant events that showcase restaurants supportive to the Capital Pride mission.  Each event helps to raise money for Capital Pride and introduce the community to some great food.

TransPride is the committee which produces the annual Trans Pride programming lineup.  Open to everyone, TransPride focuses primarily on programming that is important to the Transgender community and its allies and supporters.

Volunteers are the foundation of Capital Pride.  This committee works tirelessly to coordinate our most important asset: the 300+ people that come out to help work at Capital Pride events each year.
