Award Recipients will be Honored at the Capital Pride Heroes Gala in April

Washington, D.C. – The Capital Pride Alliance has opened nominations for the annual honors awarded to individuals and organizations at the Capital Pride Heroes Gala in April and the Pride Celebration in June. Family, friends, colleagues, and allies are encouraged to nominate those who have made exceptional contributions to the LGBTA communities and have had a positive impact on the lives of others. Full criteria and nomination forms for each of the awards listed below can be found on the Capital Pride Website. The deadline for nominations is March 6, 2017.

Capital Pride Heroes Awards recognize individuals who have furthered the causes important to the LGBTA community in the national capital region. These heroes have brought about positive, significant, and lasting changes to our lives and our community.

Engendered Spirits are those individuals who have been outstanding advocates, activists, and supporters of the transgender community. They will also be honored at the 2017 Capital Trans Pride on May 20.

Larry Stansbury Award honors exemplary contributions to Pride in the national capital region.

Bill Miles Award recognizes outstanding volunteer service with Capital Pride in the national capital region.

Paving the Way Award honors those in public life who have shown courage and leadership in helping to advance the cause of LGBT rights.

“2016 will be remembered for many things, including the extraordinary contributions made to the LGBTA community by so many. We’ve seen an increase in our community’s willingness to volunteer and contribute. We attribute this to the energy and drive inspired by the desire for complete and permanent equality,” said Ryan Bos, Executive Director of the Capital Pride Alliance. “We look forward to receiving the annual award nominations because we are able to see the extent and diversity of those who have made significant contributions in the national capital region. We encourage everyone to nominate a person or organization they believe deserves recognition.”

Honorees will be announced in early April and recognized at both the 2017 Heroes Gala, on Saturday, May 13, and the Celebration of Pride in the Nation’s Capital Pride Parade, on Saturday, June 10, 2017.
